Good colour management is about understanding colour and contrast. The colour will be defined in L*a*b* and the contrast in a tonal response curve (colloquially known as gamma). The problem with the gamma curve is that this needs to be translated by the software every time. The embedded image profile has one gamma, the monitor profile has another one and the printer profile has another.

With each component having a different gamma, every time a conversion is done, some information is lost. The solution exists and it's easy: have a linear L* curve in each profile.

L_RGB-2006-D65 has a D65 white point. The colour space is the same as for Adobe-RGB1998 with the only difference being that there is a linear tonal response curve and not a 2.2 gamma. This is recommended for photographers who want to print their images in RGB.

L_RGB-2006-D50 has a D50 white point. The colour space is the same as for Adobe RGB1998 but has been moved to a warmer colour-space. This is recommended for photographers who deliver their RGB images for four-colour printing.
